The Spring -The Life Blood of the Farm

The spring feeds the animals

The natural spring is the life blood of the farm

This natural spring is the life’s blood of our farm. We have enhanced the spring which increased the water flow substantially. This was accomplished by digging a hole around the spring large enough to put a 5 foot wide by 10 foot long culvert in the ground.

After the hole was dug, we dumped pea gravel in the bottom of the hole. We cut long thin openings, in the culvert, that will allow water to run in, but keeps the gravel out. We waited and allowed time for the water level establish the static level and then inserted an over flow at that point.

The water flows into the Spring

The main spring

The over flow continues to feed water to the spring-fed pond.

The culvert has provided a 500 gallon reservoir for the pump we installed. This system provides fresh, clean natural spring water for all of our livestock as well as the garden.
