Got SNOW?

in

Well, I guess living in California the last 15 years you would think we are in shock but we are LOVING this...I guess I just think this is how winter should be.  A little snow drama, sledding, Rod pulling us behind the tractor, and loading us! The grandkids out of school...I don't want anyone to have to miss work or to to be out driving in this unsafely - but honestly, we are having a blast!!!  Please, don't be mad at me - but do consider this an invite to come over and play in the snow with us any time...

FALL is here!

in

We have been busy canning our potatoes and other root vegetables...as the leaves turn bright orange and yellow..and "FALL"!  The fresh crisp air has been a welcome change here at Rolling Hills Farm.  Our pear tree is full of ripe fruit and we will be getting it into jars seasoned with cinnamon and cloves soon!  The turkeys are growing and will be ready for delivery in November.  If a turkey is not included in your full share, be sure your deposit is paid - we have limited turkeys left!read more »

We appreciate you!

We want to thank all of you that have been keeping our family in your prayers.  We lost our sweet nice Ashley in June and it continues to be a daily struggle for my sister and her family.

Spring has arrived!

in

Spring is here...ready or not!  The cows are calving, the sow has given birth to 11 piglets, chicks are growing, our Jersey cow gave birth to a sweet little girl, and Loosie, our miniature donkey is due next month.

We are putting our garden in tomorrow - we even have CSA family members coming out to lend a hand.

The grass is GREEN and daffodils are everywhere!

What a great time to visit the farm!!!

What's up with the white egg....?

in

Okay, a little Rolling Hills Farm trivia....How do you determine the color of egg a chicken will lay?  Brown chicken - brown egg?  White chicken - white egg? Nope!! The color of the chicken's EAR determines the color of the egg it will lay!  So, we have four chickens with white ears and get an average of 3-4 white eggs a day.  The same amazing eggs you have come to expect - just a different color shell!read more »

What can I expect in my "full share" monthly MEAT CSA...?

in

Because I get this question often, I thought it might be helpful to give a couple examples of what exact cuts of meat you might expect in a monthly full share of your meat CSA.

Example one: 2 whole chickens, (2) 2# ground beef, (1) 2# ground pork sausage, 1 pork shoulder roast, (4pk) rib-eyes, round steak, rump roast (total 25#)

Example two: (4pk)NY strip, sirloin steak, 2# ground beef, chuck roast, (4pk) pork chops, 2# ground sausage, beef soup bones (total 25#)

Blessings around the farm....

in

Everywhere we turn....blessings...our winter chickens are doing great and ready to be processed for our December/January CSA customers.  We have  full-time farm help;  Perish is really carrying his weight around the farm. He helps with everything from rotating hogs and cattle to all our winter projects (fence repairs, building our second mobil chicken coop, chicken processing area -better then the one we have, and Rod and Perish are building a cabin for Perish)! Customers are our biggest blessing - what fun we had this fall with hayrides, donkey visits, and farm tours.read more »
